Pardon Me

Please pardon my absence as Christmas, baby onesies, Jamaica have taken over my life!

We all know that Christmas is a major time-suck.  Every year I try my very hardest to streamline my Holiday season to be Fun, Relaxing, and Joyful most of all.  But try as I may, I fail every year.  I try to pack to many things in and many times rather than Holly and Jolly, I end the season Crabby and Exhausted as I pack away my jeering décor –

Smiling Santa and Glittering Angel: “We had so much fun! Why didn’t you?”

Me:  Shut up and get in the box – I’ll see you in another 348 days when I am once again feeling Holly and Jolly.

Don’t get me wrong. I absolutely LOVE Christmas and look forward to it every year. I just seem to end the year on a slightly bitter note. Why weren’t there more traditions made? Why didn’t we go ice skating? Why didn’t I make more cookies? Why didn’t we go Christmas caroling every night? Why didn’t we put up a blow-up Santa and complete set of reindeer on the roof? Why doesn’t our house look like the Griswolds??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

So far this year we have a pretty impressive list of Holiday accomplishments racking up. Work ‘Holiday’ party at the Ritz-Carlton, cold weather and lots of snow (as a Colorado Native, I consider this a huge accomplishment even if I had nothing to do with it!),  a day of baking Christmas cookies, our friend’s Annual Ugly Sweater Party, the Champagne Brunch at the Brown Palace and the Trail of Lights this weekend. (Still no ice skating…I WILL work that in if it kills me!)

Just yesterday, my husband and I went to the Champagne Brunch at the Brown Palace.  It has been a dream of mine since I did a report on Molly Brown in elementary school to go to the Brown Palace.  It is so full of history (I live for this kind of stuff – total history geek) and I had always heard that it was decorated beautifully for Christmas. So I made a reservation at the beginning of November for us to finally go. The hotel itself is already so beautiful and with all of the holiday decorations, it was just a magical experience for me stepping into the lobby.  The food was really great and the free flowing champagne didn’t hurt either! As my husband and I were sitting there enjoying the last bites of our desserts, he said, “This is really great – I think we should start doing this every year”. Look at that! A tradition made and I didn’t have to feel like I was force-feeding it to anyone! From now on, anytime I get myself stressed out during the Holidays, I will think back to this moment and my lovely husband and remember that Traditions Make ThemselvesThey happen when you aren’t trying.

On a very exciting note, my Etsy shop has attracted a few customers that I don’t even know! I have been averaging about 10 onesie orders a month since October which is time-consuming but gives me so much joy. I love creating them and sending them out and hearing about how much people like them.

And last but definitely not least, I am obsessed with Jamaica ‘mon. I can’t have a conversation and not work it in. I can’t think about Christmas because I am thinking of Jamaica. I didn’t make snowmen and Christmas tree sugar cookies – I made palm trees and flip-flop sugar cookies (ok, not really but I very seriously considered it…) The reason for my obsession? We are leaving for Jamaica in 38 days to celebrate my husband’s 40th birthday! Although, he is probably wishing we had never made plans to go. It’s all I can talk about. I am constantly showing him pictures, reading him tid-bits from the resort message boards, and dragging him around town to buy boat shoes and linen shirts. But I just can’t help myself! This will be our first trip since our honeymoon and the first ‘tropical’ experience for either of us. I  have changed the background on my work computer to a picture from the resort and provide everyone with a daily countdown update. And I guarantee that when I comes time for us to leave, everyone will breathe a sigh of relief that I am gone so I will finally shut up.  Little do they know, there will beplenty more Jamaica Talk upon my return…
